Sarah A
Johnson
Financial Consultant
Sarah joined the bank in February of 2003 as a loan processor. Sarah
is the daughter of Robert and Cynthia Cline of Garfield. In 1999
Sarah graduated from Larned High School and from Fort Hays State
University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance.
While attending FHSU, she won the National Championship at the American
Express Financial Planning Competition. Sarah is married to Marc
Johnson.
Sarah was promoted by the board of directors to Financial Consultant in
January 2004. She has completed her Series 7 and Series 24 to become a Registered
Principal of Cambridge Investment Research, Inc.
Travis Thompson
Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer
Travis joined the bank in January 2003 as a loan processor.
Travis graduated from Great Bend High School in 1998 and from Fort Hays
State University in 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business
Administration. In July 2004, Travis graduated from the ABA National
Trust School held at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. The Board of
Directors promoted Travis
to Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer in August 2004.
Shannon Fischer
Business
Development Coordinator
In January 2004 Shannon Fischer joined First
State Bank as the banks first Business Development
Coordinator. Shannon is a graduate of Larned High
School and Kansas State University. As Business
Development Coordinator, Shannon is responsible for Customer
Service, Public Relations and Advertising for the Bank.
Barbara Ramey
Asst. Head
Teller
Barbara Ramey left the X-Ray Department at Dodge City
Medical Center to join First State Bank in May 2004.
Barb Graduated from Concordia High School in Concordia
Missouri. We are happy to have Barb and her family in
the community.
Candice Hall
Loan Processor
Candice was promoted by the Board of Directors to Loan Processor in
January 2004. You might recognize her as she was a teller for
4 years before moving to the loan department. Candice is another
Larned High School Graduate
Jan Alford
Loan Processor
Jan Alford rejoined the bank as a full time
Loan Processor in August 2004. Jan was a loan
processor previously and left the bank in 2001. She
continued to work at the bank part time as needed as a
teller. Jan graduated from Larned High School and
Kansas State University. Jan and her husband Bob have
three children. We are glad to have her back
Michelle Gordon
Personal Banker
Michelle Gordon is our newest employee.
She began working at the bank in December of 2004.
Michelle is another Larned High School Graduate.
Previously, Michelle was an Administrative Assistant for a
real estate company in Panama City, FL. Michelle has two children. We are happy
to have them back in the community.
Larry Carr
Farm Management Director
Larry Carr was appointed Farm Management
Director for the bank in March, 2004. Larry has been
on the Board of Directors and Loan Committee since January
of 1990. Larry is the founder of Carr Auction and Real
Estate. Larry brings vast knowledge and experience in
real estate, equipment, and farming and is quite an asset to
the bank.
Rick Lile
Building and Ground Maintenance
Rick Lile left Dillons to join First State
Bank as the man in charge of Building and Ground Maintenance. Rick
is originally from the Wichita area. Rick and his wife Carla have 4
children. The Bank looks great and we are glad to have Rick taking
care of it.
Retirements

Sharon Arnold
(left) began working at First State Bank & Trust in December of 1993.
She worked as a Personal Banker and retired at the end of 2004.
Marilyn Minson (right) began working at the Bank in June of 1992.
She worked as a Teller and retired at the end of 2004 but still helps out
once and a while. We are sad to
see them go but are thankful for the many years we worked with them.
President Resignation

D. Gene
Dikeman II joined First State Bank on December 2, 1985 as Senior
Vice President and was named the 11th president of First State Bank on
January 10, 1990. Gene left the bank at the end of 2004 to pursue
other opportunities. Gene has done a lot for the bank and the
community over the years and we are sorry to see him leave.

Reed A. Peters
President and Chairman of the Board
In December 2004, The Board of Directors
named Reed A. Peters as acting President of First State Bank
& Trust. Reed was president of the bank from the summer of
1968 to January of 1990. Reed has been Chairman of the Board
since 1977 and continues to be today.

Douglas M. Briggs
Douglas M. Briggs currently is Chairman and
CEO of Charter Formation (De/NOVO) for UMB Bank, Arizona.
His past experience includes Executive Vice President and
Chief of Sales Officer, UMB Financial Corporation, where he
was responsible for management of the Kansas City area
regional Community Bank Presidents, Executive Vice President
of Business Development, Metropolitan Divisions and has
served as Senior Vice President and Manager of State Line
Banks UMB Bank, N.A. Mr. Briggs has been employed with
UMB Bank since 1983. Doug is married to Leigh (Peters)
Briggs and they have three children. Doug is the
son-in-law of Reed A. Peters.
Employee Promotions

Donita Clawson
Vice President
Donita Clawson was promoted by the Board of
Directors to Vice President. Donita is responsible for
Bank operations, supervises the Loan Department, is the Bank
Secrecy Officer and is involved in staff training.
Donita has been with the First State Bank & Trust Co. since
1995. She is a 1991 graduate of Larned High School and
a 1995 Graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration. Donita Clawson,
the former Donita Gleason, is married to Darin Clawson and
they have a daughter.

Peter J. Schartz
Senior Vice President
Peter Schartz was promoted by the Board of
Directors to Senior Vice President. Pete is the bank's
Senior Lending Officer specializing in Agricultural loans
including Livestock, Ag Real Estate and Equipment.
Pete is also a graduate of Larned High School (1981) and a
1985 Graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of
Science in Agriculture Economics. Pete brings to his
position a vast amount of experience in Agriculture.
He was raised on a farm in Pawnee County, continues to be
involved in the family operation and was a County Executive
Director for Farm Service Agency (FSA) for 15 years prior to
his position with First State Bank & Trust Co., which began
in 2001. Pete is married to Lisa Schartz, who is a
Real Estate Agent with Reep Real Estate. They have
four children.

as next President/CEO and Chairman of the Board of First
State Bank

Reed Peters, President/CEO
and Chairman of the Board of First State Bank & Trust Co. is
pleased to report that the Board of Directors has elected
current board member Doug Briggs as the next President/CEO
and Chairman of the Board. This appointment will be
effective August 21. Reed said, “Doug has twenty-two years
of banking experience in the Kansas City and Phoenix areas
and is highly qualified to take on this responsibility.”
Doug’s most recent experience was as Chairman and CEO of UMB
Bank, Arizona. Prior to that, he served as Executive vice
President and Chief Sales Officer for UMB Bank, Kansas City,
and UMB Financial Corporation. His responsibilities have
included management of the Kansas City area regional
Community Bank Presidents, as well as oversight of the
National Accounts Division, the Metropolitan Accounts
Division, and bank wide Treasury Management Services.
Doug says, “I have been visiting Larned regularly for the
last twenty-two years and really enjoy the people here.
First State Bank is a well run, strong financial institution
and has wonderfully talented people. I am looking forward to
following up on Reed’s success and joining this team.”
Doug’s plan is to spend about half of his time in Larned and
Pratt and half of his time in Kansas City. Reed said, “The
goal is to continue providing the best banking services to
our customers in Larned and Pratt while establishing a
presence in Kansas City. We would hope to have a full branch
operating in Kansas City within a very few years.” Briggs is
married to Leigh (Peters) Briggs and is the son-in-law of
Reed A. Peters.
“Doug and I work well together and I expect to be around the
Bank quite a bit of the time. I will continue to look after
the business of the holding company, First State Financial
Corp. and help where I am needed. I could not be happier
about how this was worked out. Our customers, our staff and
our stockholders should all benefits from Doug’s
leadership”, Reed said.
